Bangkok Dangerous (1999)
It s a story about mute assassin who starts to get tired of his life of crime.
It is not only perhaps one of the best Thai movies but overall one of the best movies what i have seen for a while. It has very good cinematography, you rarely see that well shot movie that is so imaginative and vibrant colors. Movie has also originality because story is told in a very interesting way.
Do not confuse this move to 2008 movie with Nicholas Cage. Although both movies are shot by same Pang brothers the original one is way better.
Tropical Malady
It is an art movie abut two friends and later is about a soldier and shaman. I cant really explain what is good or interesting about this movie but it is magical. I usually don\\’t like these kind of movies but i just could not stop watching.. a very magnetic movie. If you are into artsy movies with long shots then this is must see.
Blissfully yours
By same director (Apichatpong Weerasethakul) as Tropical Malady and therefore similar experience. Movie does not follow any known story telling structure but that is one of the reasons why it is interesting. Lot of non sexy sex in this movie and each shot is at least 3 minutes long. If you like art films.. this is it.
Headshot
Action movie about policeman turned into an assassin who has upside down vision. The movie can be bit slow for some and confusing but it is well made movie. Good acting, action and story.
Ong Bak (1, 2 and 3)
All three movies are pretty much the same. There is not much of a story there and it does not need one because the movie is just pure fighting action with Tony Jaa the new famous action star. Amazing stunts and most just beautiful fighting that you will ever see.
Chocolate
Story about autistic girl with powerful martial art abilities who is trying to save her mother. Fantastic fight scenes with beautiful choreography and sweet story to compliment it. This is martial art films director Prachya Pinkaews one of the best work.
Uncle Boonmee who can recall his past lives
Another weird movie by By Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Family living in a village is visited by a ghost and lost son who has turned into supernatural animal. Good movie but needs right mood to watch it. Long takes and no clue where this movie is going.
Hello Stranger
Boy and a girl go to Korea during the Songkran festival. Lovely love story Asian style.
Yamada
Historical action movie full of Thai boxing. Acting is not that great and the movie is trying to impress you but fails. But if you love fighting in time of kings then this movie is worth the watch.
Shutter
Creepy horror film abut photographer and hes girlfriend who find strange shadows on their pictures after an accident. Thais are quite known for their horror movies and this one is considered one of their best ones. Even Hollywood made a remake few years later.

and i have been living in Phuket for 8 years. That is also one of the reasons why I like to watch Thai movies. It is also alternative way to learn more about Thai culture and their people.
